Dreamers triumph, DACA continues

The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that the government cannot immediately proceed with its plan to end DACA, a program that protects some 700,000 young immigrants known as dreamers, most of whom entered the country illegally as minors, from deportation.

The Court’s decision represents a victory and that the little more than 640,000 dreamers covered by the program will be able to stay and work legally in the United States.

DACA was put into effect on August 15, 2012, temporarily halting the deportations of some 700,000 undocumented youth who entered the country before their 16th birthday and are known as dreamers. It includes a renewable employment authorization every two years document that also allows them to manage a Social Security number.
